This year marks 90 years since Constable Thomas Heeps, the officer in charge of Matamata station, was slain on duty by a mass murderer at a farm near Morrinsville. The constable will be among those acknowledged at this year’s official Police Remembrance Day ceremony at the Police College in Porirua on Friday, September 27.
