Should brakes go on Skodas?
So what are people’s views on the Skodas? We have had them for a while now and I’ve heard the contract is coming up for renewal. Should we stick with them or move on? I get mixed reports about them. I suppose you always will when people have strong views on cars. The Ford v Holden debate was always good for a wind-up.
The worry I have is the rumours about delays in repairs and the high cost of them. I’ve been told that parts are not kept in stock and have to be ordered from overseas, keeping cars off the road for long periods. I’ve also heard that because repairs and replacements are two different budgets, we can spend tens of thousands on repairs when a replacement would have been cheaper. Tell me this isn’t true?
She wants us all out of a job?
I see it’s not just local body politicians in Wellington who are prone to foot-in-mouth disease. Now the Wellington Central MP has decided we don’t need police in New Zealand. Oh, how would that idea would unfold in reality. How do these people get elected, what is in Wellington’s water? Oh that’s right, you don’t have water except when a pipe bursts.
Perhaps they should have a look at the consequences of the defunding-of-police experiment in the United States, which saw crime rates explode. And who suffered the most? The most vulnerable, the poor and the marginalised, who were left with no protection in the most dangerous neighbourhoods. I would like to think that most Kiwis see this for the nonsense it is, but you have to worry when people actually vote for those with some bizarre ideas.
Heads spinning in the big office
Changes at the top! Well, the commissioner can’t be accused of sitting on his hands. There has certainly been a fair bit of activity at the pointy end of PNHQ. The musical chairs have seen some big changes and my sources tell me this won’t be the last of them. There will be a few more before things settle down. I also hear there is going to be an expectation that leaders have more visibility and those currently removed from the frontline may be checking out a few nightshifts in the near future. All good stuff if you ask me and not something to be nervous about. Good, refreshing stuff.
