Messages of condolence for Constable Matthew Hunt’s family and for police in New Zealand were sent to the Police Association after the news of the young officer’s death.

Matthew Hunt was a young constable with a promising career ahead of him when he was taken from his family and from the community he loved serving.

The tragic death of our colleague Matthew Hunt has affected us all, and is bound to have an impact on our families.

Last month, 28-year-old Constable Matthew Hunt became the 33rd New Zealand police officer to be killed in the line of duty. The fact that he was gunned down during a traffic stop, the likes of which happen daily nationwide, has struck a powerful chord with Police Association members and led to outpourings of grief and sympathy from within New Zealand and around the world.
