Ian Paterson - 1985

Ian started with Police in 1956, and served for 29 years, retiring in 1985 at the rank of Senior Sergeant. 

Ian was elected onto the Hamilton District Police Association Committee in 1964, and over the years held the position of both Chairman and Vice-Chairman. In 1972, Ian served as a National Councillor and carried out this position through to his retirement in 1985. He also served on the National Management Committee, was involved with the Police Welfare Fund and was particularly active in the revival of the then flagging Credit Union.

Ian also received the Gordon Hogg Police Sportsman of the Year award.

Ian was present to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Police Association in October 2005, and was honoured again, along with other Life Members.

Ian was awarded Life Membership in 1985.
